Eu estive no cemiterio de Botafogo hoje..

I haven't been really concentrating on black and white photography, but this photo just doesn't work in colour.. It was a colour film, but it's much more powerful like this. I'm also not that good in portuguese.

Kuvitelma-kuvataidemyyjäiset / Art Bazaar

Hey, tomorrow sunday 22nd April there's a big Art Bazaar at Gloria. I'll be there selling old works and also something new of course! Photos, prints and also jewellery I've made. There'll be about 50 artists selling their works, so come!! It's a great chance to find artworks and prices are definitely lower than in galleries..

You are most warmly welcomed!!! Even if you don't want to buy anything, come check out the place, there'll be lots of paintings, photos, posters, comics, cards, jewellery, shirts, everything.. And there's some performances also there.  So from 12h00 to 18h00 at Gloria, Pieni Roobertinkatu 12, Helsinki.

valoKuvA at FAFA Gallery

Still couple of days of exhibition left, sunday is the last day. Exhibition had quite a lot of visitors I guess and there was a good positive critique on the newspaper Helsingin Sanomat.. Here's how it looks.

At the front the works of Federico Ortegón Perez: Automatic Adam, Floating District 1 & 2
This Floating District (1) was my favourite of the exhibition, two photos here on the right.

Here is my work A Cross:

Jonna Kina: Untitled

A detail of Saku Soukka's Contrast

Sampo Apajalahti: Piilo

Ninni Wager: Aistien vapautuminen kulminoituu logiikasta irtautumiseen

Tadaa, Hello!

Kotona / At our place

This is why I started to be so keen on photography, my father was always hanging around with his camera. And as cheezy as it sounds, I remember clearly the first time he let me take a photo with his Canon AV-1, that is now lying on my table safe with my other cameras.  (It was in one of those old castles you'll find here in Finland, Turunlinna or something) He was a really good photographer, we have loads of slides at his storage waiting to be digitalized. Our slide projector is now broken. We were just talking how good it was to gather together to watch slides in our living room. Here are some photos I scanned couple of weeks ago. Maybe not so perfect technically, but still..

Sorry about the dust. Here's one of me being proud of my crazy good artwork:

Paper walls

Well well well, still going through my photoarchives.. I really love that photo of the two bellies. Get a bit of Nan Goldin vibe from it. Feathers are so dramatic I just had to put it there.

räven

maybe a bit too nordic kitch but.. I was dancing this song räven at a dance class yesterday and going through my photoarchives made me think about it again. that swan really deserves a whole post of its own. i think a fox ate it.

FAFA opening couple of weeks ago

Just ran into these photos! Some shots from the valoKuvA-exhibition opening, first a gallery streetview and then just some random photos from the night. You can't see my work though, but a little bit of the atmosphere is here..

All photos by Pia Männikkö, thanks Pia!

The place was amazing (it's my hometown Kuopio) so I had to share these. It's the brightest place I've ever been to, so much light it's unbelievable..

Preview 5

Here's what the exhibition looks like at the Finnish Museum of Photography.  It's at the Project Space of the museum, you still have plenty of time to visit. Sorry about the quality of photos, it's not perfect, but it'll do for now. I didn't have my tripod with me today, I'll have to go there again with it.

Here's the place where the museum is, Cable Factory. it's a complex of museums and artist studios etc. Photography museum is where the letter G is.

And here it is:

Artists in order of the photos:

Myself, Aleksi Linnamaa, Jonna Kina, Jarkko Räsänen (on the top), Ville Andersson, Filippo Zambon, Laura Paavilainen and Saku Soukka.

Interjection

I like when bloggers reveal what kind of blogs they like. Though I don't really consider myself a blogger at all, it's such a good idea to do.. So here's one of my favourite blogs. I like this blog because it is quite light and easy and quite entertaining also. But it has some really innovative stuff in it, little inventions that would be left unnoticed without this blog. Also the writer makes some excellent combinations and all the headlines and everything are a success in their randomness. She combines good photography, scandinavian design, food, artists etc.. Here you go: LOLITA

She also gives a lot of tips for blogs to follow, I've often found many other good blogs via Lolitas..

I also got my idea for this self portrait gif animation from her, I try to continue it soon enough..

valoKuvA

I am also participating in another photography exhibition that is held at Gallery FAFA at the moment. It opened up the same night as Preview 5. It is simply called "valoKuvA", Photograph, with our school's IDs KuvA in the end. It's an exhibition of works of students who use photography in their artistic working. Was that clearly put?
Exhibition lasts till 22nd of April. I have there one photo which is the largest one I did so far, 110 x 130 cm approximately. I won't show it yet, go and see the exhibition! I'll go and take some photos of the photos later.
